Overall Continuing Medical Education Objectives

After attending this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the current medical practices, general knowledge and state of embryo donation and adoption including availability, opportunities, ethics, social concerns, processes, and success rates.

  • Determine the prevalence of embryo donation and adoption, the risks involved, and the obstacles facing this practice.

  • Discuss the medical history, current status, and significant role of embryo donation and adoption for couples who have excess frozen embryos or are seeking pregnancy.

  • Discuss or explain the screening process for embryo donors and recipients, including exclusion criteria.

Accreditation

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine and the National Embryo Donation Center. The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

AAPA: American Academy of Physician Assistants accepts Category I credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA Category 1 CME credit for the PRA from organizations accredited by ACCME.

AAFP: This activity has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 14.75 prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

CEU: Adhering to guidelines set by the American Medical Association, the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine will issue Certificates of Attendance and CEUs for non-physicians attending this educational activity. This activity is designated for up to 1.5 CEUs by the University of Tennessee using the national standard that 1 hour of educational instruction is awarded .1 CEU.
